Equity Examinations

Curtin University recognises that some students require alternative arrangements for their examinations. This may be due to a disability, a medical condition or a religious reason.

Students requiring alternative exam arrangements due to a medical condition or disability should seek advice and assistance from Curtin’s Disability Services. You will need to provide medical documentation to support your request at the initial appointment. Disability Services will then assist you to make arrangements for in-class and end of semester exams.

For more information, visitĀ ourĀ Curtin Malaysia Health, Counseling & Disability Services or write to HealthCounsellingDisability@curtin.edu.my

Please note, the deadline for alternative examination applications is three weeks prior to the commencement of the examination period, so ensure that a meeting with the Disability Advisor is made as early as possible in the semester.

Students whose religious convictions prevent them from sitting an examination at the scheduled time may apply for an alternative examination based on religious reasons. To apply for an alternative examination, please contact Curtin’s Multi-Faith Officer to arrange an appointment. The Multi-Faith Officer will assist you in the application process. At the meeting, you will need to provide appropriate documentation from your church or religious group and provide advice of unit enrolments. Further information is available on the Multi-Faith Services website.

Please note, the deadline for alternative examination applications is three weeks prior to the commencement of the examination period, so ensure that a meeting with the Multi-Faith Officer is made as early as possible after the final examination timetable is released.

Students experiencing issues (such as complications with a pregnancy or extenuating commitments as a primary carer) that prohibit them from sitting their exams at the scheduled times should in the first instance apply for an Assessment Extension, otherwise known as a Deferred Assessment. This is a formal process and allows for the student to apply for an alternative time to sit the exam.

Equity students requiring a letter-of-support for their application should contact Curtin’s Ethics, Equity & Social Justice department (EESJ). If the alternative time is still not appropriate or you require more advice about your circumstances, please contact EESJ on eesj@curtin.edu.au

Please note, the deadline for alternative examination applications is three weeks prior to the commencement of the examination period, so ensure that communication is made as early as possible after the final examination timetable is released.
